S decided to hold another Seattle Center get together and we checked out EMP. There are actually a lot of history of music / play with instruments type exhibits there (which is really the large part of EMP) but we only spent a good amount of our time at the 3 special exhibits – Avatar, Science of Horror Films, and Science Fiction.
Aside from thinking that the little floaty seeds in Avatar were jellyfish, I was pretty happy with the stuff they had there. It reminded me a lot of the Pixar exhibit @ Oakland because there’s a lot of info on the actual science behind how the movie was produced, as well as the models, sculptures, conceptual art, etc. It was really cool and I think A would have enjoyed it. Of course I had to take a picture of the robot thing (sorry I don’t remember what they’re called) because as a guy I am obligated to think cool thoughts about big metal awesome things.
The horror film exhibit was pretty cool but I think I still don’t completely appreciate them, mostly b/c there’s too much “movie logic” that occurs. Also I got really excited when I saw the Elder Wand, which ended up being “Mr. Pointy” from Buffy (speaking of which…COMIC-CON). Yup. It has a name. And it kills things. I guess.
Basically my entire afternoon was spent mistaken-ing one prop for another. It was great :].
Favorite part of the afternoon – scifi section. Soooo geeky. Soooo me.
