Last week, when I was finally settled in and could shop for food to last me more than three days, I had gone to Trader Joe’s to stock up on all those pantry essentials. Today I realized that I only really needed to grab some fruits and veggies for the week, so I decided to drop by the market near Civic Center BART.
Pro Tip – Go loot your local farmer’s market near closing time. I went around 3 today (the market closes officially at 5) and everyone was selling dollar bags of produce, or mix-n-match dollar pounds of fruit.
Of course, being me, I took advantage of the mix and match deal and got myself plenty of fruits to snack on this week.
I got several different types of pluots and plums, as well as white peaches and donut peaches and some grapes. The stone fruits are slowly taking over the berries…
I also got a good mix of greens and not so green veggies. The dollar bags consisted largely of sweet peppers, which I’m not the biggest fan of, but that’s ok. In general the produce is cheap enough that even if you don’t take advantage of the deals, you can still get a lot of stuff for a decent price.
A good mix of colors is the way to go.
The best part is that all this cost me only $7 :)!
